
Basic Technique

Course fee: £20 (There will be a £5 per day target fee for participants who are not a member of Cleve Archers)
This short course aims to help participants improve core archery techniques.
Sessions will include a full warm-up and an introduction to bow drills which can be used for strength and conditioning training.
Each session will then focus on an aspect of technique;
Session 1 - Stance and Posture
Session 2 - Setting up your shot
Session 3 - Alignment and Release
In order to get the most out of these sessions we recommend that you try to practice the new techniques between sessions to help embed the new skills.
Please bring light limbs with you if you have them, if not you are welcome to use the club's training bows.

Course Fee: FREE
All archers must have received instruction in Clout shooting prior to competitions.
This short, non-practical, training session covers the basic principles of clout shooting and some useful tips and tricks to try when you finally have a go at clout.
The County Clout is coming up and this is an excellent opportunity to have a go at clout, you can enter any distance you're comfortable with. The entry form can be found on the Gloucestershire Archery Society website.

To earn any of the World Archery Beginners’ Awards, you have to reach a minimum level of:
- Score
- Skill development
- Knowledge and know-how
Score
You need to achieve a certain score at a given distance for each award.
At each stage, 15 arrows are shot at an 80 cm target face.
Skills Development
The achievement of a good score is only a consequence of well-implemented skills. For each level you will need to demonstrate that you have acquired the expected skills.
Knowledge and know-how
Learning archery is not restricted to learning the steps of the shooting sequence. As you progress you will also need to:
- Play safe, and know the safety rules
- Know the specific terminology
- Look after your equipment - to brace the bow, maintain and repair the equipment (i.e. arrows, string, arrow-rest), etc.; learn the competition rules.
Recurve Set-up

Course Fee:
Basic recurve or barebow set-up covering how to set up and change nocking points, bracing height, tiller, limb alignment and centre shot.
If you want to do this on your own bow you will need a take-down bow with either ILF or Formula limbs.
Recurve Tuning

Course Fee:
This is an introduction to tuning a recurve bow using bareshaft tuning. Bareshaft tuning is an excellent way to start tuning and get a reasonable tune in a short amount of time. Before tuning you should be able to shoot a reasonable group at 30m.
If you are looking to tune your own bow you will need to have a pressure button on your bow.
Recurve String Making

Course Fee:
On this course you will learn how to make a recurve string. You will be able to take the string with you but don't necessarily expect your first attempt to to produce a quality string. Practice makes perfect.
Cancellation Policy
If you cancel your course more than 28 days prior to the start of the course we will charge a £5 administration fee on a refund, more than 14 days prior to the start of the course we will refund 50% of the course fee, unfortunately we are not able to refund the cost of courses cancelled with less than 14 days notice, if we are given more than 14 days notice it may be possible to transfer you to another available course. If you have used voucher code during your initial booking and this code is not valid for the course you are transferred onto you will be required to pay the difference.
A substitute who meets the criteria for the course can be named at any time before the course.
Fitness and Risks
All participants must declare their fitness, existing injuries and/or any medical or other conditions. If you do not inform us in advance we may not have the staffing levels or facilities ready for you - so you may not be able to take part / shoot even if you have booked and paid.
All participants must confirm that: a) they will pay attention to the safety briefing at the start of the event regarding the risks involved; in the event that they miss the briefing it is their responsibility to discuss these issues with an instructor prior to starting the shooting / activity; and they must follow all instructions throughout the course. b) That they accept that these activities are dangerous and can result in death and/or injury and c) That they accept the risks involved and are responsible for their own actions and involvement.
Photography
We reserve the right to use photographs or video taken at this event in publicity and promotional materials - printed and online. A person who does not wish to have their image recorded for distribution should make their wishes known to the instructor in writing at the start of the course.
Boost Archery
Boost Archery is an Archery GB initiative to help clubs give their members (particularly novices) a positive experience of coaching. It is designed to engage archers, help them enjoy the sport and keep them coming back.
Cleve Archers are running a series of courses, workshops and training to allow people to pick the coaching experiences that they want. This is in addition to our regular Tuesday night coaching throughout the summer.
